BACKGROUND:

Converting P25 FDMA channels to TDMA channels makes room for additional channels for voice and data.  This enhanced capacity improves the system’s grade of service, leading to fewer busy calls and faster callbacks during busy situations.  Union County has not updated the conventional paging system in years.  This update will help meet our conventional system needs and help us safely and efficiently deliver critical information to users in the field as well as being more cost effective and reliable.

N.C.G.S 143-129(e)(3) and N.C.G.S 143-129(e)(9) allow local governments to make purchases through a competitively bid North Carolina Statewide Term Contract or a Group Purchasing Program.

The purchase of the TDMA Conversion and VHF Conventional Simulcast will be made using North Carolina Statewide Term Contract) 725G quoted by Motorola Solutions.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The anticipated cost for the TDMA Conversion and VHF Conventional Simulcast is $2,847,153.00 and is budgeted accordingly for FY24.
