BACKGROUND:

The goal of the NC Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program is to reduce the morbidity and mortality due to breast and cervical cancers in women by providing breast and cervical cancer screening services, diagnostic services, and patient navigation services for eligible underserved women in North Carolina. The Union County Department of Public Health has received $3,250 in additional funding from the NC Division of Public Health to serve an additional 10 women in the program (from 65 to 75). Funding will be used for mammography services for women who are low income (below 250% of federal poverty level), who have not been screened in the past year and are between the ages of 40 and 64. Funding may also be used for women who are low income, who have never or rarely ever (greater than 10 years) been screened for cervical cancer and are between the ages of 21 and 64.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The County is awarded $3,250 from the NC Division of Public Health through May 31, 2024 with no additional County match required.
