The regular meeting of the Union County Board of Commissioners scheduled for Monday, February 2, 2026, will not be held out of an abundance of caution for public safety due to inclement weather. All items on the agenda will move to the next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
Due to construction at the Union County Government Center, the primary entrance off Main Street Plaza is closed. Visitors should follow signage to the facility's temporary entrances. To learn more or to view a project map, visit ucgov.info/PardonOurProgress.

ACTION REQUESTED:
Adopt a Resolution Authorizing Conveyance of a Certain Canine Retired from the Service of the Union County Sheriff’s Office to a Certain Retired Union County Sheriff’s Deputy in accordance with N.C.G.S. 160A-267.
BACKGROUND:
Union County Sheriff’s Office has retired “Kobe”, a 7-year-old Black Labrador Retriever single-purpose canine. “Kobe” served 6-7 years as a single purpose, explosive detection canine. He served as a member of UCSO Operations and has served not only Union County, but the surrounding region with his partner/handler Sgt. Shilo Garner. “Kobe” is highly trained and not an average pet. The Sheriff’s Office is compelled to ensure he is responsibly placed in a home that understands his training, therefore, the best person to place “Kobe” with would be his handler Sgt. Shilo Garner.
