BACKGROUND:
Union County is an active member of the Catawba Wateree Water Management Group (CWWMG), which brings together 21 public water utilities in North and South Carolina plus Duke Energy, which owns and operates every reservoir along the river system. Working collectively, the CWWMG identifies, funds, and implements strategic initiatives that extend the Basin’s capacity to meet community needs, while safeguarding its ecological health. The group is required to create a master plan every 10 years and in 2025 completed the CWWMG’s third planning document. This Integrated Water Resources Plan is a basin-wide, science-based roadmap for managing both water supply reliability and water quality in the Catawba-Wateree River Basin. All members are asked to adopt this resolution of support for this Integrated Water Resources Plan.
