Consider Appointment to Fill the Vacancy in the Membership of the Union County Board of Commissioners.

None.
BACKGROUND:
A vacancy occurred in the membership of the Union County Board of Commissioners on March 31, 2026, due to the resignation of Mr. Gary Sides. Pursuant to N.C.G.S. § 153A-27, the Board has 60 days after the day the vacancy occurs to fill the position. To be eligible for appointment to the position, a person must be a member of the same political party as Mr. Sides (Republican Party).
N.C.G.S. § 153A-27 provides that the Board of Commissioners shall consult with the county executive committee of the appropriate political party before filling a vacancy and receiving its recommendation. To fulfill this requirement, the Union County Republican Party met on Thursday, April 16, 2026, to provide that recommendation.
