Adopt the County Register of Deeds Records Retention and Disposition Schedule as Issued by the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources on April 13, 2026
PRIOR BOARD ACTIONS:
Adopted the County Register of Deeds Records Retention and Disposition Schedule dated October 10, 2012
BACKGROUND:
N.C.G.S. 121-5 and N.C.G.S. 132-8 give the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources (NCDCR) the authority to determine when any public record may be destroyed. Pursuant to this authority, on April 13, 2026, NCDCR issued a new schedule specifically for records retention and disposition for Register of Deeds Offices. NCDCR requires each Board of County Commissioners to adopt the schedule before use.
