Comprehensive Transportation Plan Pedestrian Map Amendments

body

INFORMATION CONTACT:

Bjorn E. Hansen, Planning Department, Senior Planner - Long Range Planning, 704-283-3690

ACTION REQUESTED:

Consider requesting Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO) to approve the proposed additions and deletions to the pedestrian map portion of the Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP).

PRIOR BOARD ACTIONS:

None.

BACKGROUND:

Union County refers to the Pedestrian Map of the Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) in the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) when requiring sidewalk installation for new development. This map has gaps in the network that may cause Union County to not require sidewalks near municipalities, which would reduce the utility of nearby sidewalks. In addition, the Map includes recommendations for sidewalks expected to remain rural. Union County has coordinated with municipalities to confirm gaps to be addressed with these amendments. Union County is conducting a 30-day public comment period on the proposed amendments that will close September 22. A total of eight people have commented through the survey, will an additional two people commenting via email. The request can be viewed at <https://arcg.is/00rXLi0>

The timeline of this amendment process is below.

June: Local resolutions requesting opening comment period

July: CRTPO TCC and Board information presentation

August: CRTPO TCC and Board action

August to September: Public comment period

September to October: Review results and local resolutions requesting action

November: CRTPO TCC and Board information presentation

December: CRTPO TCC and Board action

The Land Use Board recommended these changes at its September 17, 2024 meeting.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

None.
