Adopt the Resolution in Support of Reducing the Speed Limit on Cuthbertson Road from 45-mph to 35-mph.

BACKGROUND:
The Town of Waxhaw has requested support from Union County to accompany their formal appeal to NCDOT to lower the posted speed limit on Cuthbertson Road from 45-mph to 35-mph from the Providence Road (NC-16) intersection up to the current 35-mph zone. This segment funnels traffic directly into Cuthbertson Middle and High Schools as well as the Southwest Regional Library. A 45-mph speed zone in this area creates an unnecessarily high-risk environment for drivers as well as pedestrians utilizing the crosswalks. Reducing the speed limit is in harmony with Waxhaw’s Vision Zero Commitment and Safety Action Plan, an initiative prioritizing safe connections to key community destinations and eliminating preventable roadway fatalities.
