BACKGROUND:
On September 18, 2026, Emergency Communications Operations Manager Susan Furr was awarded the Advanced Service Award and the Advanced Telecommunicator Certificate by the North Carolina Justice Academy (NCJA).
These prestigious recognitions celebrate Susan’s 22 years of dedicated service to Union County and her longstanding commitment to the emergency communications profession. The Advanced Service Award recognizes Susan’s more than 20 years of full-time service as a certified telecommunicator, highlighting her dedication, experience, and sustained excellence throughout her career.
The Advanced Telecommunicator Certificate is the highest certification available to a telecommunicator through the NCJA. It recognizes emergency communications professionals who have completed advanced formal education and telecommunicator training and who have demonstrated significant experience as a certified telecommunicator. Susan is the first employee from Union County’s 911 team to earn the Advanced Telecommunicator Certificate, making this achievement a significant milestone for both Susan and the department.
