BACKGROUND:

The County’s Yadkin River Water Treatment Plant uses Sodium Hydroxide 25% to adjust the pH and alkalinity of the water being treated.

On October 3rd, 2026, the Procurement Department partnered with Union County Water to issue Invitation for Bid #2026-030 Yadkin River Water Treatment Plant Chemical Sodium Hydroxide 25%. On February 6th, 2026, four bids for the title project were received and processed. All bids were tabulated, reviewed, and certified by UCW Water Treatment. The bids ranged from $1.05 per gallon to $1.44 per gallon. Staff recommends that the project be awarded to the lowest responsive, responsible bidder, Univar Solutions USA, in the amount of $1.05 per gallon.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The anticipated annual cost for this service is $60,000. Since this contract contains an initial term of one year, with four one-year renewal options, a total of $300,000 is estimated to be spent. Funding is available in the adopted FY2026 budget with future expenditures subject to annual BOCC budget appropriation.
