PRIOR BOARD ACTIONS:

1) October 21, 2024, Regular Meeting, Agenda Item #24-677 - Open comment period.

2) March 17, 2025, Regular Meeting, Agenda Item # 25-126 - Hold public hearing.

BACKGROUND:

Several roads west of downtown Waxhaw are being modified or built as part of project P-5748, which will build a new bridge over NC 75 and the CSX railroad line in order to close railroad crossings at Helms Road and Tory Path Road. This project is currently underway, and one new road has already been completed, connecting Tory Path and Helms Road. Waxhaw and Union County are responsible for naming the roads in this area. They conducted a public input period between November 7 and December 15, 2024. Based on the submitted names, staff have made recommendations for each of the proposed or recently completed segments. At the March 17, 2025, public hearing, a resident requested that the name remain Helms Road. Staff coordinated with Waxhaw, who agree that switching the recommended Helms and King Hagler Road namings would also work. The Town of Waxhaw took action on their portions at their March 25, 2025, regular meeting. The recommended name for this segment is King Hagler Road.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:
