BACKGROUND:

Union County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Carmen Jenkins is being recognized with the Lifesaver Award for her actions in response to a cardiac arrest earlier this year at a home in Indian Trail. Deputy Jenkins was nearby when the call was dispatched and arrived on scene approximately one minute later, several minutes before additional first responders. After determining that the patient was not breathing, Deputy Jenkins immediately applied an automated external defibrillator (AED), began CPR and administered a shock when advised by the AED. She continued CPR until fire department personnel arrived and continued lifesaving measures.

Deputy Jenkins' AED remained connected to the patient and delivered two additional shocks as first responders continued treatment. Deputy Jenkins later followed up with the patient's family and learned that the patient had survived and was expected to make a full recovery. Deputy Jenkins is being recognized with the Lifesaver Award for her immediate response, effective use of her training and extraordinary actions in providing critical lifesaving care.

The Lifesaver Award is presented to Union County employees whose actions directly contribute to saving a life.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:
