ACTION REQUESTED:
Appoint the recommended representatives to the Union County Child Fatality Prevention Team, Community Child Protection Team, and the Transportation Advisory Board.

BACKGROUND:
1) Child Fatality Prevention Team and Community Child Protection Team
The Union County Human Services Agency requests approval of the following appointment to the Union County Child Fatality Prevention Team (CFPT) and Community Child Protection Team (CCPT) by the Union County Board of Commissioners:
- Eric J. Claflin, EMS
CCPTs were established in 1991 to review selected active cases of child abuse/neglect and cases in which a child died as result of suspected abuse/neglect. They are established in every county of the State. The purpose of CCPT reviews is to improve the Division of Social Services/Child Protective Services system and other community systems that protect children from abuse and neglect.
Local CFPTs were established in 1993 to review child fatalities and make recommendations to state and local policy makers. The purpose of these reviews is to improve local and statewide systems to better protect children.
As in most counties, the local Union County CFPT and CCPT are merged and meet quarterly. N.C. G.S. 7B Article 14 defines the duties and membership composition of CCPTs and CFPTs. Based on this State statute, the members represent various disciplines in the community such as law enforcement, mental health, school system, health care, etc. Appointments are made by respective agency leadership or local elected boards as required by statute.
