PRIOR BOARD ACTIONS:
None
BACKGROUND:
At their Regular Meeting on June 16, 2025, the Board of Commissioners adopted the County Manager’s Proposed FY2026 Operating and Capital Budget. The budget included the appropriation of funds for the final phase of market adjustments based on implementation of the County’s classification and compensation study as well as a mid-year, cost-of-living adjustment for all County employees. The market adjustments were implemented based on a specific calculation using the number of years an employee has worked with the County in their current position. The cost-of-living adjustment was based on a flat percentage of 2.5 for each employee.
The Sheriff’s Office is requesting to use the portion of the budget earmarked for market and cost of living adjustments for their employees as well as funding included in the budget for five (5) cadet positions to provide pay increases for their staff using a different calculation as follows:
• 6 percent for all levels of Deputy Sheriff and Detention Officer
• 4 percent for Lieutenants, Sergeants, and the Corporal
• 3 percent for Civilian staff, Chief Deputy Sheriffs, and Captains
These pay increases would be effective December 13, 2025, and appear on paychecks deposited on January 2, 2026.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
No additional funds are needed beyond funding that is already included in the FY2026 budget for market and cost of living adjustments earmarked for Sheriff’s Office employees and funding included in the budget for the cadet positions.
