Easement Grant - Union Power Substation

body

INFORMATION CONTACT:

Patrick Niland, County Manager’s Office, 704-283-3630

ACTION REQUESTED:

Grant an easement to Union Power for the construction and maintenance of a substation on County property and authorize the County Manager to negotiate and execute an agreement substantially consistent with this agenda item.

PRIOR BOARD ACTIONS:

None.

BACKGROUND:

Union Power recently approached the County to request an easement on the property where the Sheriff’s Office Training Facility is located for the purpose of constructing an electrical substation. Granting this easement would add some redundancies in the power supply at the Sheriff’s Office Training Facility, which the Sheriff is in favor of. Staff has reviewed the location of the proposed easement area and has determined that it does not interfere with County or Sheriff’s Office use of the property and would be well placed to tie into existing Duke Energy power poles and transmission lines on the property.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

$100 paid to the County by Union Power.
