ACTION REQUESTED:
Adopt the Resolution for the Designation of County Owned Property as Economic Development Property.
PRIOR BOARD ACTIONS:
1) March 3, 2025, Regular Meeting, Agenda Item #25-111 - Authorization of Land Purchase
2) August 16, 2026, Regular Meeting, Agenda Item #26-464 - Designation of County Owned Property as Economic Development Property.
BACKGROUND:
Union County acquired 27.77 acres in Wingate consisting of tax parcels 09-015-013E and 09-015-013 on April 4, 2025, by North Carolina Special Warranty Deed and North Carolina Non-Warranty Deed, more particularly described in Deed Book 9094, Page 565, and Deed Book 9094, Page 571, Union County Registry. The parcels were purchased for the total of $2,082,750.00, funded by the County’s General Fund unassigned fund balance in Fiscal Year 2025. The Board of Commissioners approved the acquisition and believes assembling and holding this property for economic development purposes will stimulate the local economy and promote business and such property should be designated and held for potential disposition as economic development property under N.C.G.S. 158-7.1.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Designating and holding for potential disposition as economic development property could result in revenue, promote business, and stimulate local economy.
