BACKGROUND:

Union County’s Water & Sewer Division is seeking a contract with a chemical supply vendor to provide Magnesium Hydroxide Slurry. Magnesium Hydroxide Slurry is required in the Wastewater Process and is also used to control corrosion in the Collection System.

The Procurement Department partnered with Water & Sewer Division to issue IFB 2026-082 Magnesium Hydroxide Slurry. On July 21,2026, five Bids were received. All bids were tabulated, reviewed, and certified by UC Water. The bids ranged from $1,367,604 to $2,372,895. Staff recommends that the project be awarded to the lowest responsive, responsible bidder, Polytec, Inc. in the amount of $1,367,604.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The estimated annual cost for this service is $1,367,604. Since this contract contains an initial term of two years with three one-year renewal options, a total of $6,838,020 is estimated to be spent. Funding is available in the adopted FY2027 budget with future expenditures subject to annual BOCC budget appropriation.
