The regular meeting of the Union County Board of Commissioners scheduled for Monday, February 2, 2026, will not be held out of an abundance of caution for public safety due to inclement weather.  All items on the agenda will move to the next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

ACTION REQUESTED:

1) Recognize, receive, and appropriate an additional $57,669 in State Aid to Public Libraries funding to the Library’s General Fund operating budget and 2) approve Budget Amendment #15.

PRIOR BOARD ACTIONS:

September 3, 2024, Regular Meeting, Agenda Item # 24-583 - Approved the 2024-25 Application for State Aid to Public Libraries.

BACKGROUND:

The State Library of North Carolina oversees the funding for the Aid to Public Libraries. In order to receive this aid, public library systems must submit an annual application for State Aid. Once all libraries in North Carolina submit their applications, disbursement calculations are made based on the number of qualifying library applicants. Now that all library applications have been submitted and approved, Union County will now be receiving $254,109 which is an additional $57,669 of funding.

FINANCIAL IMPACT: 

The library’s operating budget will be increased by $57,669.
