ACTION REQUESTED:

Authorize the County Manager to negotiate and execute an agreement substantially consistent with this agenda item.

PRIOR BOARD ACTIONS:

April 3, 2023, Regular Meeting, Agenda Item # 23-187 - Awarded construction contract, authorized execution of contract, and adopted resolution providing notice of construction.

BACKGROUND:

The Generator Replacement Project at the Union County Public Schools Administration Building will replace the existing generator with a new generator of similar size and operational capabilities. Upon putting the new generator in service an overheating condition in the room housing the generator was observed. This overheating condition must be corrected for the generator to be fully functional during long periods of electrical service interruptions. The engineer of record, Optima Engineering, has developed a solution that includes exhaust heat ducting and venting equipment. These additions were not included in the original scope of work required of the contractor.

 

Facilities Management has utilized the contractual services of Khalid Davis Electric for construction services on the UCPS Generator Replacement Project since July 6, 2023. Khalid Davis Electric has been effective and efficient in meeting our service needs, and we are requesting to approve the contract amendment to add heat dissipation equipment, and zero (0) days to the contract time for the additional work.

 

The contractor has submitted Change Order #003 in the amount of $10,556.73 to cover these unexpected costs. The most current contract price was $109,263.22 and with this change order will increase to $119,819.95.

FINANCIAL IMPACT: 

The cost of this change order is $10,556.73. There are sufficient funds in capital account 40080174 - Union County Public Schools Replace Generator to cover this expense.
