BACKGROUND:
1) Child Fatality Prevention Team and Community Child Protection Team
The Union County Human Services Agency requests approval of the following appointment to the Union County Child Fatality Prevention Team (CFPT) and Community Child Protection Team (CCPT) by the Union County Board of Commissioners:
- Eric J. Claflin, EMS
CCPTs were established in 1991 to review selected active cases of child abuse/neglect and cases in which a child died as result of suspected abuse/neglect. They are established in every county of the State. The purpose of CCPT reviews is to improve the Division of Social Services/Child Protective Services system and other community systems that protect children from abuse and neglect.
Local CFPTs were established in 1993 to review child fatalities and make recommendations to state and local policy makers. The purpose of these reviews is to improve local and statewide systems to better protect children.
As in most counties, the local Union County CFPT and CCPT are merged and meet quarterly. N.C. G.S. 7B Article 14 defines the duties and membership composition of CCPTs and CFPTs. Based on this State statute, the members represent various disciplines in the community such as law enforcement, mental health, school system, health care, etc. Appointments are made by respective agency leadership or local elected boards as required by statute.
2) Transportation Advisory Board
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) requires that all Transit Systems have an Advisory Board in place comprised of stakeholders from the service area who have an interest in the services being provided by the Transit System. The Transportation Advisory Board (TAB) serves as a steering committee and is expected to discuss unmet needs in the service area, service design, billing rates and fares, and to offer assistance in resolving customer complaints. The Board must include representatives from the elderly, minority, limited English proficiency, disabled and/or low-income populations, or include individuals that represent these consumer groups and are able to encourage the transit system to be more sensitive to the needs of these diverse groups when necessary. The TAB is required to meet at a minimum on a quarterly basis as one means of seeking public involvement. Union County has adopted a framework for up to 18 members/positions, with 16 positions currently filled and two (2) open positions on the TAB.
The following individual has indicated an interest in serving and the TAB unanimously approved them.
