body

INFORMATION CONTACT:

Christopher J. Boyd, Facilities and Fleet Management Director, 704-283-3868

ACTION REQUESTED:

Authorize the addition of one FTE (full-time equivalent) in the Facilities and Fleet Management Department for the following job classification:

•                     1 Automotive Mechanic

PRIOR BOARD ACTIONS:

None.

BACKGROUND:

A recent working group consisting of the Facilities and Fleet Management Director and Assistant Director, Transportation Department Director and Supervisor, and Human Services Administrator, developed some areas of improvements related to the delivery of fleet services to the Transportation Department. With these increasing demands for improved maintenance and repair services comes the need for additional staffing to meet the needs of the Transportation Department. The working group identified a plan that includes the addition of an automotive mechanic primarily dedicated to delivering maintenance and repair services for transportation fleet vehicles. The additional mechanic will allow improved turnaround times and scheduling opportunities, as well as allowing the overall fleet operation to become more effective and efficient.

This request is to approve the addition of one (1) FTE (full time equivalent) with a classification of Automotive Mechanic to be managed by the Facilities and Fleet Management Department. The position would be funded as follows:

                     $82,249.62                     80%                     5307 Urban Area Grant

$20,562.40                     20%                     Medicaid Trip Revenue (Local Match)

$102,812.02 (estimated total cost at market rate plus full benefits)

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

No new funding required.  Existing funding in 5307 Urban Area Grant and Medicaid Trip Revenue has been identified within the FY25 budget for this request.
