PRIOR BOARD ACTIONS:
April 3, 2023, Regular Meeting, Agenda Item # 23-179 - Approved Amendment
BACKGROUND:
Flock Safety camera system is a large manufacturer for automated license plate readers (ALPRs) that capture computer-readable images of license plates for vehicles that pass the cameras. These high-tech devices allow law enforcement agencies to compare plate numbers against those of stolen cars, suspected vehicle break-ins, and other crimes that occur in the area. If a vehicle is reported stolen it alerts law enforcement officers that a stolen vehicle is in that area. Flock LPRs have proven to be effective in solving crime in Union County. Detectives were already able to solve two different string of car break-ins in the Indian Trail and Wesley Chapel areas. The Flock Cameras that we currently have are continuing to help Detectives and Patrol Deputies solve crimes throughout Union County.
The Union County Sheriff's Office has utilized the contractual services of Flock Group, Inc. for Automated License Plate Readers since April 2022. Flock Group, Inc. has been effective and efficient in meeting our service needs, and we are requesting to continue this service for an additional term of two years.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The anticipated annual cost for this service is $25,500.00. Since this contract renewal is for a two-year term, a total of $51,000 is estimated to be spent. Funding is available in the FY2025 budget.
