ACTION REQUESTED:
Approve amendment to add two (2) new positions to the Town of Weddington Law Enforcement Services Contract.

BACKGROUND:
On behalf of the Town of Weddington (Town), the Union County Sheriff’s Office requests the addition of two (2) Deputy Sheriff FTE’s to serve as contract patrol deputies. The Town approved these positions as part of the FY2025 budget in order to enhance the law enforcement services provided to residents, businesses and visitors. The Town desires to keep the crime rate low, provide broader coverage and quicken response times. Further, Town leaders would feel increased staffing provided opportunities to boost traffic enforcement that targets the ongoing issues with aggressive drivers. The total cost for two contract deputies is $290,696.74. The Town is responsible for 90% of those costs totaling $261,627.06. The County, through the Sheriff’s Office budget is responsible for the remaining 10% in the amount of $29,069.68.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The Town of Weddington will fund 90% ($261,627.06) of the costs associated with the addition of these positions. The County will fund the remaining 10% ($29,069.68).
