INFORMATION CONTACT:

Bjorn E. Hansen, Planning, Senior Planner - Long Range Planning, 704-283-3690

ACTION REQUESTED:

Authorize Chairman of Board of Commissioners to sign revised Memorandum of Understanding.

PRIOR BOARD ACTIONS:

None.

BACKGROUND:

The CRTPO Board endorsed an update to its Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and authorized staff to circulate the updated document for signatures during the July 17 meeting. The change will increase Union County’s weighted voting to three out of 74, up from two out of 68. Charlotte’s percent of the total vote decreases by three percent.

In order for the CRTPO’s updated MOU to be considered the current document, signatures must be received from the Chief Elected Official and Clerk from each of the CRTPO’s voting jurisdictions.

The updated CRTPO MOU and signature page is attached in this agenda item. The CRTPO Board leadership has requested that all jurisdictions sign and return the executed documents electronically by September 13, 2024.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

Increase of approximately $8,000 in annual dues for FY2026 related to increase in population and reduction of ETJ for municipalities. Total membership cost will be $33,079 as a result of this MOU.
