ACTION REQUESTED:

Authorize the County Manager to negotiate and execute an agreement substantially consistent with this agenda item.

PRIOR BOARD ACTIONS:

June 19, 2023, Regular Meeting, Agenda Item # 23-350 - Awarded construction contract, authorized execution of contract, and adopted resolution providing notice of construction.

BACKGROUND:

The Emergency Services Complex required the construction of a new communications tower. The tower project was delivered independent of the larger building project and awarded to Midland Communications, Inc. During construction, the contractor realized some price increases that were beyond his control including the purchase price of the tower and cost of concrete for the tower foundation. In addition, the contractor was required to perform soil compaction testing per City of Monroe that were not included in the original contract. The contractor has submitted Change Order #1 in the amount of $7,205.35 to cover these unexpected costs. The original contract price was $205,465.41 and with this change order will increase to $212,670.76.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The cost of this change order is $7,205.35. There are sufficient funds in the Emergency Services Complex capital budget to cover this expense.
