PRIOR BOARD ACTIONS:
None.
BACKGROUND:
The County’s new 12 MGD Conventional Water Treatment Facility located on New Salem Road in Monroe, NC known as the Yadkin River Water Treatment Plant, will use Sodium Thiosulfate to dechlorinate the outfall effluent to meet NPDES permit compliance. This chemical is stored in 250-gallon totes and weighs over 3000lbs. During use, these totes must be placed on spill containment pallets, which are approximately 24” high. These factors require the use of a forklift to remove/replace these totes during plant operations.
N.C.G.S 143-129(e)(3) and N.C.G.S 143-129(e)(9) allow local governments to make purchases through a competitively bid North Carolina Statewide Term Contract or a Group Purchasing Program.
The purchase of the forklift will be made using Group Purchasing Program, Sourcewell Contract 091520-HCE quoted by Carolina Industrial Trucks. The Procurement Department has vetted this contract and purchase amount.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The anticipated cost for the forklift is $59,556.00 and is budgeted accordingly for FY2024.
