PRIOR BOARD ACTIONS:

None.

BACKGROUND:

In accordance with N.C.G.S. 62A, the NC 911 Board is responsible for establishing a statewide service charge per connection for any type voice communication service provider to provide for an enhanced wireline and wireless 911 calls within the State of North Carolina. These actions were taken in response to FCC mandate in Docket 94-102. Proceeds from the service charge are deposited into a fund administered directly by the North Carolina 911 Board and allocated based upon General Statutes. Among the distribution types, grants may be awarded to PSAP’s within North Carolina.

Following an application to the NC 911 Board, Union County Emergency Communications has been awarded a grant in the amount of $108,301.57 for the purchase of thirteen (13) portable radios. These portable radios will serve as a backup radio in the event of a radio failure or evacuation at the primary 911 facility and will allow interoperability between communications centers utilizing the UASI Radio Network or VIPER system.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

This grant will provide $108,301.57 in revenue with no matching funds required.
