ACTION REQUESTED:
1) Recognize, receive, and appropriate an additional $54,097 in State Aid to Public Libraries funding to the Library’s General Fund operating budget and 2) approve Budget Amendment #17.
PRIOR BOARD ACTIONS:
September 5, 2023, Regular Meeting, Agenda Item # 23-605 - Approved the 2023-24 Application for State Aid to Public Libraries.
BACKGROUND:
The State Library of North Carolina oversees the funding for the Aid to Public Libraries. In order to receive this aid, public library systems must submit an annual application for State Aid. Once all libraries in North Carolina submit their applications, disbursement calculations are made based on the number of qualifying library applicants. For FY2024, the State Budget included an additional $3,817,869 recurring increase to State Aid bringing the annual appropriation to $18 million. This increase was unknown at the time the State Aid applications were due. Consequently, Union County will now receive $250,537, which is an additional $54,097 of funding.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The library’s operating budget will be increased by $54,097.
